Fitness and fresh air – two of the great joys of life! Nordic Walking is the newest addition to my repertoire – and one that I am particularly excited about. It is one of the fastest growing recreational fitness activities in Europe at the moment. It’s great exercise that gives you a full body workout, utilising 90% of skeletal muscles if performed to the correct technique. Compared to normal walking it burns between 25% and 46% more calories – great for those of you looking to lose weight. Nordic Walking was developed in Finland as the summer training for cross-country skiers, it employs the use of poles which are used to enhance the walking effect. By using the poles you also get a great abdominal and arm workout – giving you good muscular tone and a longer leaner looking figure. It is suitable for all ages of all abilities and can be performed to your own challenge level, meaning that you are not in competition with anyone else! We use public footpaths and bridleways to enjoy the beautiful Wiltshire countryside whilst looking after our health. You can join a Nordic Walking class and meet other people who like you, want to increase their fitness levels or, you may prefer individual tuition.
